Dr. Deborah Sweeney Receives Community Award

Deborah Sweeney, D.N.Sc., associate professor of nursing, has been named the recipient of the 2013 John W. Runyan Community Nursing award. The award is named in honor of Dr. John W. Runyan, Jr., distinguished professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science's Department of Preventative Medicine. This award recognizes a currently practicing nurse who has made significant contributions to the development and promotion of community health nursing.

The award will be presented to Dr. Sweeney during the Tennessee Nurses Association convention awards lunchon on Friday, October 18 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This is a well-deserved award that recognizes Dr. Sweeney for all of the community work she has been involved with over the years.

Dr. Sweeney began teaching at Baptist College of Health Sciences in 2004. She is also the recipient of the 2004 Baptist College Distinguished Faculty Award. And, in 2012, the Exchange Club of Memphis recognized Dr. Sweeney as the Exchangite of the Year.
